Planking..the new craze

It’s happening all around Nigeria, people are taking pictures of themselves awkwardly lying face-down in all sorts of unlikely places. On  fridges, on stair rails, on table tops etc, I mean have seen dangerously funny pictures on twitter, people are planking  anywhere you can conceivably fit a human body. The weirder the place, the more accolades you get *shrugs*

I heard the game started in a Australia as a practice and somehow it has become a fad . Planking can also be called the lying down game , or face downs. The game has become popular in various parts of the world, and the fad is just hitting naija..has we are always catching the fads last and craziest. It involves lying face down in an unusual or incongruous location. The hands must touch the sides of the body, and  you must have your photographs taken and uploaded on the internet.

I was a bit taken aback when I got a BBM that said planking in Latin means ‘worshiping the devil  in a parallel manner”…na so fear catch me, am wondering where it all came from, I have been online searching every English-Latin translator/dictionary I can get , and what kept coming up as the meaning of planking is “tabula”. Now am kind of confused…who invented the worshiping the devil story….* naija sha, we always have the devilish twist to any fad

I think its just a game, a dangerous one though, but the craze has gone past what we think o. For a day to be set aside to celebrate a  First Annual Global Planking Day: May 25, 2011. Now that's something. You know there's even an Official facebok page Official Planking , and It has received lots of “like” votes. Hmm, wonders they say never end...so all you  plankers around naija, be sure to mark your calendar for May 25^th, 2012.  

Yes I have been seeing lots of planking photos, one after another, and am scared for us, the trend is becoming annoying and I fear that we might loose people (God forbid o) I'm trying to ignore the doles of contempt am feeling right now because I know people will want to out do each other by playing the game in more dangerous places. Yeah, may be I'm overlooking the hundreds of people that are doing it safely, but I 'll just say here that if you have to plank, please do it safely
