DAY 1: I'M HERE FOR A REASON~ 9ja Great

"I am here for a purpose and that purpose is to grow into a mountain, not to shrink to a grain of sand. Henceforth will I apply ALL my efforts to become the highest mountain of all and I will strain my potential until it cries for mercy" - Og Mandino

I saw her carrying one of her sewing machines and didn’t even bother to ask,I knew she was going to sell it just as she sold a few others some weeks back.Her business wasn’t doing well and first she had to let go of one of her shops,then after a while,she let go of the other and started sewing in the house.Things were still not improving so she resolved to selling her machines and wrappers (thank God she had a lot of them) just so we’d have food on the table,roof over our heads and be able to go to school.I remember walking in on her praying and crying and quietly walking out.But I also remember feeling my heart break into a million pieces.That was the day I knew I’d never be poor! That was when I also knew that smiles are deceptive because even though times were tough and my mom was very unhappy,she was always smiling outside and you’d hardly know things aren’t going well.That was also when I resolved to helping people more than I even wanted to.

I grew up very early (I’m not surprised I’m going bald LOL).My mum and dad had been separated long ago,while I was still a toddler and she had been the one taking care of my elder brother and I (thank God she didn’t have a football team).The kind of environment I was raised in is the type that fashions one for failure.I sort of grew up in a ghetto,had to do some odd jobs at a young age to have some money to do stuffs I needed to do.I wasn’t doing well in school because I’d rather play than study.So I had lots of unpleasant things said to me and these messed my head up a lot.So,first I was with a single mom who was struggling so hard to keep her head above water,then I had a dad who didn’t believe in me and would rather say mean things than encourage me,then I had a head full with unpleasant things that people infused into it concerning me,I was a scared kid,and psychologically unstable.I remember the times that I’d be alone and would be thinking even at that young age.

However,even as these things were going on,I was still doing something that’s still amazing to me right now.I was still encouraging my peers whose lives were either worse or just as messed up as mine.I was a leader amongst my peers and it wasn’t because I was a terrorist then,but majorly because I was able to give them renewed hope.I grew up into a somewhat reasonable man and my ability to renew people’s hope grew with me.People found it easy to talk to me because I’d rather listen than talk,and when I do talk,I’m not complaining but encouraging.I still have friends who call when they have issues because they know they definitely would feel better.I remember talking to a friend , encouraging him and making him see reasons why he can perform better in school-So you would anticipate my joy when he called and told me he had a first class that semester.When he graduated and was having a hard time finding a job,I was always making him see reasons why he shouldn’t give up and sent him money when I could and now he’s got a job.Friends have used words that made me know I am here on earth for a reason.Some of such words are; “I wish I were like you”,”I keep telling my friends that I have a friend that I’ll never forget and his name is Ebila”,”You’re a good friend”.A friend’s wife even said “You’re indeed a friend” just because of what I am to her husband.Words like those make me want to be better,they make me know I’m touching lives not just with my substances but with words of my mouth and the mind of a winner.I am here for a reason,that reason is to touch lives positively and put smiles on peoples’ faces.I’m yet to completely fulfill that reason.

Life is fulfilling when someone is smiling because of you,life is bliss when someone is thanking God because of you.I am here for a reason and so are you.Have you considered the reason you’re here?!

  1. A friend asked me why I chose this topic, "I don't know" was my reply. Don't I?

    Some thoughts began to play on my mind few weeks ago,you know those thoughts that play on your mind when its getting to the end of one year or the beginning of another? Yea...those thoughts about how well you have accomplished your goals, about your purpose on earth and all? Yea those thoughts.

    I kept asking myself, "why am I here, what's my purpose on earth?" You see the good truth is I have too many grand dreams or calling. I am interested in a lot of different things and I am not afraid to explore them. I've found many gratifying things to do over the course of my life...I was a trainee architect, a fly-soprano in one huge beautiful choir, a columnist in a magazine that died before it got to the stands, I was a centre-point amongst my friends, people talk to me about stuffs a lot-i love to listen, I love reading, I'm a trainee-writer, I have this thingy for mathematics, I've worked as an IT exec, I appreciate poetry etc.

    I was busy looking for that one perfect purpose, the reason for my being, I just have not found it but I made a conclusion. I might not be able to say "my purpose on earth is to be an apostle, a singer, a soldier, a pilot" like some people, but I know this: I'm here on earth "to be all I can be"

    I see purpose in a different light now, I think it’s how we make a difference in the world utilizing our many gifts, interests and talents. Purpose I think shouldn't be about "do"-ing but about "be"ing.

    *my opinioin*

      9ja-Great, this post is very inspiring... this short story will help us realize the fact that, its not really about where and how a person was raised but mainly on the person and what s/he wants out of life.
      Thanks for sharing and Kudos to you Dayor! keep up the good work.

  2. Very touching story!

    The feeling of seeing someone smile because of you is something that cannot be replaced. I know the feeling and it inspires me to want to do more. So why am I here?

    I am here because God put me here to be what I can be for the people around me, after a life changing experience its others then me. Here to encourage, here to love. Here to put smiles, here so people can see me and glorify God in my life.

    I pray he continues to give us the grace not to miss our reason.

    @dayor Niceeee.... Purpose is about "be-ing" not "do-ing" (y)
