Beneath the Beautiful
A lot of times we all get so wrapped up with activities and accomplishments that we forget what should matter.
Our jobs take our time, commuting takes our time especially in a place like Lagos, we get so engaged with Church activities, partying etc. and we forget the substance, we neglect ourselves and take replenishing ourselves for granted- we never take holidays, no time off from work, no time to wait on God because we think being an usher or a chorister in church is all that matters. We pursue the degree and we tell ourselves "when I have my B.Sc. all be fine" then we go ahead and apply for our masters programme right after that, apply to get a professional certificate after that and then we say "I just want to make a partner in this office and then I can slow down", "I just need to make my first million, then I can have some time"…and we keep going and we just never stop.
What happens if somehow we lose all these things? The car, the job, the house, the millions…? Who really are we beneath?
Don’t wait till the earth in which the seeds of your life receives nourishment becomes dry. Don’t get to the point where all that's you is all we see - do not let your personality come from just the job, the car…all those things that don't last. Yea, having all the stuff is good, best believe I love me some good life. But the question is, underneath all these beautiful things, who are you? On what is the foundation of your life built?
How often do you take time out to get rejuvenated and get refilled? How often do you step away from the noise and spend some time with yourself? Halt! Slow down! Take a moment for yourself, sit down with a nice cup of tea you deserve it. There's water flowing, stop, wait a minute and take a drink.
God please give us wisdom to go through life, for those of us that are caught up with living and have forgotten who we are; help us to let go and look to you. Help us to rest in your divine plans for our lives. Help us to always remember that beneath it all, beneath the beautiful, there is life, there is the real us and there is YOU! AMEN!
"There is perhaps nothing worse than reaching the top of the ladder and discovering that you're on the wrong wall" - JOSEPH CAMPBELL
Rest in Naija? That sounds like a fairytale to the common man. Is it when the price of garri is skyrocketing and PHCN bills are 'moonjetting' or the fear that the plane flying over your head may fall if you don't start binding and casting? Lol...To be sincere, everyone needs a break else such person would break down. As you go on that picnic or holiday, forget your worries and cast your burden on Him. Cheers.
